Contest!

Hai-Kuultest – Part One

So, I was thinking about the fact that the 100th haiku is fast approaching. And I was thinking about having a contest for this.

The problem is that some of the haiku are my own, which shouldn’t count if it was a contest. Some of the haiku are created based on interpretations of a topic, creating more than one haiku for a request.

There is also the fact that some people do multiple requests in one comment, and some that only do one. What is to prevent someone from posting one hundred requests? Nothing.

And so, I phoned my friend Dave, and in our banter, I came up with this new idea.

To celebrate the milestone, I will hold a contest in the following manner…

Starting today, at 14:00 EST, I will be taking requests for Hai-Kuul. The 31st request wins. The rules are as follows…

  • The request must be made in the Hai-Kuul post on the sidebar as a comment. Any other Hai-Kuul request will not be counted as an entry, but I will create a Haiku for it regardless.
  • You cannot submit more than one request at a time. Thus five requests in the same comment only count as one entry.
  • You cannot submit more than one comment in a row at a time. Thus, if you were to submit two comments in a row, it would only count as one entry.
  • The Request must be original. No duplicates (which means you have to read the other ones). Duplicate requests will be deleted.
  • No members of my family are eligible for this. Any request from my family will be ignored (I will still write a haiku for the request though).
  • To receive the prize (there is only one), you must be able to provide me with a mailing address.

The 100th Haiku may or may not occur due to this contest. If it does, it is a happy coincidence.

The prize for the 31st requestor will be an 8×10 glossy limited print (2/100) of two tigers (on 8.5×11 Canon Professional Photo Paper)…

Good luck!

Special thanks to Cat for helping me out with the proofing of the rules.

UPDATE (May 18, 2005): This contest is now closed.

  1. “The 100th Haiku may or may not occur due to this contest. If it does, it is a happy coincidence.” ….er……. …..soooooooo busy managing the traffic caused by the contest that you won’t have time to actually write the Haikuul??? Is that what you’re telling us??? LMAO! 😉

  2. No, I mean that the 100th Hai-kuul may not correspond with the 31st entry. Other people may submit haiku in the mean time, that will not be part of the contest.

  3. …..you just HAD to clarify! hee hee hee 🙂

  4. Jorge, I can’t believe that the bus driver kicked you off the bus because you had the wrong pass! What a moron… You should of flirted with them. It works… Well, I’ve used it on police officers and it works then. Oh and once with a cabbie because I had literally lost my wallet. Alright, so there’s lots of occasions…but I refuse to take responsibility for those when I’ve been under the influence… It’s not me…it’s the booze battering my eyelashes I swear… LMAO…LOL Now… I think that for this Hai-Kuul it should be… Hoity Toity Transit… Sounds about right doesn’t it? But I don’t care for the rules… I’m more of a non-conventional type of person. I think that their should be new rules made up. Ones that say “Drea is allowed to come up with thirty-one comments and as many hai-kuuls and her numbers actually count”… Just kidding…sort of… Alright Jorge…have yourself a fantastic day… Hugs, Drea

  5. For those of you wondering what Drea is referring too, I originally had a spot about being kicked off the bus for having the wrong montly pass (I had April instead of May). I removed that part due to the fact that I wanted to link to this contest from the sidebar, and didn’t really want any other topics contained in the entry (prevents lack of confusion).

Drea: Flirting with cops just gets me in trouble. Remind me to tell you about the time I answered the door in my pajamas only to be two rather attractive female officers at 3 in the morning….

  6. I see your picture, and I’ll tell you what I think of these tigers…THEEEYYY’RE GREAT!
