What’s the Art of Camping Updated With Shouts?

What’s In a Name Again?

I believe I mentioned how not to pronounce my name in a previous entry. Said entry also has a guide on the acceptable way to pronounce my name. Clara, I hope this helps you. Why it is pronounced “George” is due to what my parents called me.

The Art of Balance

The way things have been lately, this blog might as well be called Hai-Kuul Space or something along those lines. I have been under a constant barrage of requests since the contests started a little while ago.

Indeed, the curve that represents the requests versus time is so steep that I wondered at some points if it was going to curl back upon itself and cause some sort of webspace anomaly, but as of yet this has not occurred.

Now this is not to say that I don’t like these requests. I do enjoy them, and those of you who put lots of work into thinking up the requests should be happy to know this.

However, as stated in a previous entry, all the haiku leave less time for other things (like the Fig-tionary, and the everyday life of me which is very interesting, really).

I suppose the key to doing this is all about balance. This is something I am still learning on the blogopshere (whatever the hell that means).

In all honesty, I can probably churn out about a hundred haiku an hour if the mood takes me. As impressive as this may sound, it leaves little time for anything else during my lunch break, or the time at night after I finish playing online games with friends or checking my e-mail.

When blogging becomes too much work, then something is wrong.

And so I am going to throttle down a little, and answer a fixed number per day. Not only will this give me some breathing room, but it will also allow me to not have to worry about printing up prizes for the nth request practically every week. Oh, there will still be contests, but we must all be patient.

Camping Trip

This weekend will be an interesting one. I am going camping with a group of my friends from K-rot. It should be a great experience.

A variety of folks are going with different ways of thinking and attitude, but it should be a good time.

I’m looking forward to shooting some more sunrises and sunsets, and also taking some photographs for a friend’s kobudo package.

Photography Update

I will be doing a show at Salvador Darling in July. It should be great. I will be teaming up with my buddy Mark Furman for this venture.

The theme has not been determined yet, but rest assured that we will dazzle you with our work. Or at least you can have some free munchies during the open house.

Shout Outs

Shout outs to Courtney and her clan for graduating and rising from the status as students to the much more glorious title of unemployed. Shout outs to Mugen for the same thing.

Also a tip of the hat to T&M Rhee who tied the knot this weekend. M is a triple threat this year, gaining her PhD, Goju Black Belt, and a Korean man-servant all within the space of half a year. Way to go!

Knockback Apology In the Night

Knockbacks In Toronto Part Deux

I wanted to thank Ian for coming over last night with a bottle of wine! Mrs. Jorge and I enjoyed the company of the Haligonian, and we conferenced The Shellie on the phone to make the triumverate complete. Talk about your crazy parties!

It’s always great to make new friends, especially when they are as nice as Ian. We enjoyed cedar-plank barbecued salmon, some grilled veggies, and some fine beers and wine. For dessert we had cholocate chip, walnut/brown sugar encrusted banana bread.

A great time was had by all.

Hai-Kuul Apology

I want to apologize if I don’t get any Hai-Kuuls out today. I don’t usually like writing them at work, so I write them at home the night before and e-mail them in so the format conforms to the style that I like.

I worked on a whole whack of them last night and e-mailed them to work so I could post them, but I don’t see them in my inbox. I’ll be right pissed if they went the way of the dodo, to be sure.

Stay tuned!

Sometime Quietly During Tuesday Night…

My blog slipped into the 10000+ region. Thanks to all of you for your support. While I am not normally a stats whore, this information made me a bit giddy yesterday.

Fig-tionary – May 31, 2005

panicdote (Jorge came up with this while writing a story about an event from his childhood)

  1. Function: noun – a usually short narrative of an interesting, amusing, or biographical incident that scared the pants off the person relating the story – Usage: If you ever heard Jorge’s panicdote of the time he lost the hair on his arm, you would never go near a barbecue again.

*Remember, you can submit a request for a crazy definition for a typo by clicking here. You can read about the Fig-tionary here.

Trip To Old Madness

Trip To Old Québec

My wife and I decided to get away for the weekend, so we went to Old Québec City. It’s like someone took a piece of Europe and transported it to North America. The flight and taxi ride there were uneventful. Our luggage beat us to Québec by an hour, but no harm done.

We stayed at Chateau de Léry, which is simply an old house that has been converted into a hotel. It’s nice enough, but none of their seemingly new windows had any seals installed, so the wind that persisted all weekend made them rattle. I took it upon myself to fold up some tourist pamphlets and jam them in the windows to stop the noise (a la MacGyver). That did the trick.

Too bad I only figured out that trick on the 3rd night.

The hotel was non-smoking (although someone decided to break that rule upstairs on our second day there). Our actual room looks like it was an old living room at some point. They built a small bathroom steps away from the fireplace with a frosted window. Within this small room, the toilet was right next to the wall, and the bathtub was quite small. The sink was actually in the main room, situated behind the entryway. Very odd setup.

The staff was also hit and miss. Some of the people were very helpful, while the others seemed kind of lost. For the price, I guess it’s tough to expect a lot. Truthfully, I didn’t find it all that bad, but I doubt I would be staying there again. I’d like to try somewhere different next time.

We ate at l’Omelétte (a nice little breakfast place), Gambrenus (An awesome place. Dressy. They had a guy walking around with a guitar singing songs, and the staff and food were amazing), and a couple of other small places.

It was fun just walking around and taking photos, watching people lean into the wind, and just relaxing.

I definitely want to go back someday – when it’s warm.

All in all, a great way to spend a birthday weekend.

Haiku Madness

Man, you guys are insatiable! This Hai-Kuul feature is going strong.

I have to admit that I wasn’t sure how well this feature would actually catch on. Truth be told, there have been so many requests I’ve been having a tough time updating my blog with stories. However, that fact is offset by the amount of fun I am having with the challenges that people are throwing my way.

We just recently passed the 200 mark. Keep them coming. I’ll be holding another contest soon for another print, so keep your eyes peeled. The 250 milestone is fast approaching!

Best Blog

Best Wife Ever

Mrs. Jorge showed up at the bar last night with a birthday carrot cake for me. Totally unexpected.

I left for class at 20:10 PM and she showed up at the bar at roughly 22:00. Shortly after, Mrs. Jorge came in with the cake. I was taken aback.

That was the best surprise ever! Thanks Mrs. Jorge!

Away from the Blog for a Few Days

I’ll be away from the blog for a few days, so don’t you fret! Just keep submitting haiku request, and I’ll get on those when I get back.

Have a great weekend!
