10 Things I Can’t Live Without

Tagged, eh?

Jules has tagged me with the task of listing ten things I can’t live without.

The catch?

This list excludes people and animals.

So without further ado…

  1. Air
  2. Water
  3. Food
  4. Creativity
  5. Energy
  6. The Sun
  7. Determination
  8. Chopsticks
  9. Music
  10. Verbs

Sorry, Jules. That’s the best I can do at this time. It is quite late and I’m really tired.

I tag…

Goodbye Footnotes, Hello FootNotz

Footnotes: A Thing of the Past

I tend to use a lot of footnotes when I blog. There are just so many references that I figured I would keep the flow of my articles by using this handy system.

The problem is that footnotes don’t always make reading a blog easier. In books they work well because you don’t have to use a scrollbar to read them. Car accidents like this can give you carpal tunnel syndrome.

Hence FootNotz. Why FootNotz? Well, they are not footnotes. And they are spelled with a z at the end to give them that urban edge.

So just hover your mouse over any text in this purplish colour and be amazed!

I’m sure Beth might be able to use this exciting new feature to avoid things like this.

FootNotz, the way of the future.

Flies Along

Time Flies…

On Saturday I participated in a fifteen hour marathon Karate class.

I suspect there are very few who would consider that a fun way to spend a Saturday.

I, however, enjoyed what I learned immensely.

In my opinion, it’s great to push your physical and mental limits, because it’s the only way you will develop. Expanding one’s own potential is a marvellous thing. If you never do it, you’ll never be everything you were meant to be.

I have a lot of work to do. Lots of polishing of movements and interpretation of the chicken-scratch that I refer to as my notes.

I will be busy for a while.

Strolling Along

Does anyone have any recommendations for a stroller for an infant?

Mrs. J and I were out on the weekend looking for one and figured that a travel system would be the best way to go about things.

The interesting thing is how complicated it is to choose one.

Certainly there is a lot of selection. The problem begins when you try to figure out what features you need.

It’s worse than buying a car!

Truthfully, I think that shopping for strollers is a lot more tiring than a fifteen hour Karate marathon…

Lemme ‘Splain. No. Too Long. Lemme Summup.

The Year in Review

I suppose that at some point before the calendar page turns each of us should look back and take stock of what has transpired over the last twelve months. It’s not always an easy thing to do. Most things that we don’t need to do are difficult.

Some of us human beings are preoccupied with keeping score. Trying to make sure that we come out on top.

Interestingly enough, if we want to come out on top, we always will. We always have the option of eclipsing the bad with the good if we like. Of course, this can also work in reverse.

There are those among us who never deal with the negative things that they have done (especially to others). These people coast through life wreaking havoc, never stopping to clean up the messes that they leave.

I think it takes more strength to look back on the bad things and see what benefit you can gain from something that possibly took a chunk out of you.

I had originally written a long post about my trials and tribulations this year. After reading it for the nth time, I came to the decision to delete it.

It sounded too whiny. Too negative. The whole point was to try and find the positives in the bad things that happened. But there weren’t enough solutions.

So I’m going to keep it to myself. My own list of things to work on. Inevitably I can see a lot of you trying to put forth pep-talks and such. But I don’t really need those. What I need to do is take care of my own list by myself (maybe with a little help from my friends).

So in place of my giant article, I offer up this vague list to sum up my year…

  • Exercise disappointment
  • 24-Hour Movie Marathon goodness
  • Unspeakable loss
  • Great times with friends
  • Visiting our treasure in the South
  • A pleasant surprise
  • Unreasonable fears
  • Energy renewed
  • Another loss
  • A visit from our treasure from the South
  • A house
  • Hitting my wall for the first time in a long time
  • Coming up with a plan to overcome the wall
  • Making a new, very great friend
  • Counting myself lucky to have solid friendships

Trust me, you would have fallen asleep at the original post.

All I Want for Christmas is Super-Human Speed…

…Or the Ability to Manipulate the Space-Time Continuum.

Since our move, I find myself short on time. Everything seems to be creeping up and jumping out at me from behind the corners ahead.

I suppose a lot of it has to do with the do-it-yourselfing that we’ve been doing. It has not been too bad, but there are a lot of little things that need to be taken care of.

And so, other things have taken a back seat. Things like Christmas cards.

It’s December 18th, and I haven’t even sent out one yet. This is a new low for me.

So if you’ve sent us one and have not received one back, please accept my apologies.

It Feels Like Home to Me

Christmas woes aside, it certainly feels good to have our own place.

You tend to feel invested in a place when you have to paint it. Especially the cranberry-coloured accent wall which took six coats of paint.

I’m damned proud of that wall.
