Reunion

Eee!

Last weekend was the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the high school that I went to (well, the one that I went to for most of my high school career, as my family moved at the end of the summer before I was in grade ten). Reunions seem to evoke feelings of excitement in some, dread in others, and indifference in others still. Our reunion actually consisted of an entire weekend of events. The only events that I were interested in, really, were the talent show and a pub gathering, both taking place on the Friday night (the events overlapped, oddly enough). It was definitely a strange night; in some ways similar to the old days – in others, very different.

Heartbreaking

Today My Daughter Broke My Heart…

Little J acted out because she’s desperately trying to walk the tightrope of acceptance. It’s obvious that she acted in a way that she probably thought would earn her some cred with the “alpha” kids. While not explicitly saying it that way, she did explain her behaviour to me and that is how I understood it.

It reminds me of my own childhood: fighting the fight within where you either stay true to yourself or sell out and feel that elusive sense of belonging.

Jorge: Hey dude! How goes?
Jared: Had nasty food poisoning for the last two days.
Jorge: Never fun.
Jared: Like being on that machine that takes your life from Princess Bride.
Jorge: Yup. Except that it takes the life out of your body through your ass.
Jared: LOL!
