The Places We’ll Say, the People We’ll Do…

Racial Fignorance

Sometimes the thing that slips out when somebody is talking just makes me laugh. Even though if that same thing could be said on public radio and cause an uproar…

Jorge: I am trying to figure out how to incorportate Little J into my Hallowe’en costume.
Dave: Yeah?
Jorge: I’m thinking I will be Indiana Jones and I can put a baseball cap on her and she can be Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Dave: Cool.
Jorge: Fifty dollar bill! Fifty dollar bill! Oh wait, that’s not from Indy. It’s from The Goonies.
Dave: Haha. Yeah. That’s true.
Jorge: I wonder where that guy is now? What other movies has he made?
Dave: Wasn’t he one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
Jorge: No. That was Ernie Reyes Junior.
Dave: Really? Aren’t all chinese people the same guy?

WTF?!?

There have been some entertaining hits from search engines to my blog. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how these are actually valid.

Of course, after typing this article, they will cause even more hits for the same things.

Ah well…

  • lots of recycling bins
  • freaky boys
  • rubber panties
  • truck drivers nuts
  • weed and crashes

Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore…

A Thought…

…On Taking the High Road

Sometimes, you will hear people talking about this.

Be the bigger person, they say. Maybe even something like it’s for the greater good will pop into the conversation.

There are times, in my opinion, where taking the high road just gives you a better vantage from which to confirm how shitty a situation really is.

And no, I’m not depressed. I’m just making a comment.

Measuring Progress with Pablum

The Watcher Watches

I’ve never really had ridiculous goals.

I’m simple that way.

I just want to be a good father, a good husband, and a good friend. It doesn’t sound like much, does it?

It can be a challenge, though.

Luckily I’ve been blessed with people that make all of those goals easy to attain.

I also find it great when other people want to set goals for themselves. I stand behind them (so long as the goals will never end up harming anyone).

I have to admit, though, that I can’t get enough of watching Little J hit all of these goals that she’s never really committed to.

It’s somewhat inspiring, to tell you the truth.

The fact that this little squirt can achieve so much in so little time is amazing. It’s amazing that all babies do this.

She’ll try to do something, and if she fails she gets pissed off. Be that as it may, she still won’t give up, and she’ll keep pushing and pushing until she reaches her goal, even though she’s not sure what it is.

Sort of puts things into perspective.

Mission Complete

Acknowledgement

I finally achieved my goal of completing my gradings.

It was a long road, but I feel good about it.

I didn’t really get a chance to thank all of my friends for their support and their inspiration. It means a lot to have people who are in your corner.

I especially wanted to thank my two ladies for being so patient with me over the summer. It’s not easy to put up with someone who is at the Dojo five days a week, no matter how well they schedule their time.

A Lurve Story

Yes, You Heard Right!

Welcome to the fourth wedding of the summer. This was our last wedding of the year, and it was a great do.

My fishing buddy/wilderness mentor/practical joke nemesis got hitched to his gorgeous bride at the end of August in a beautiful ceremony in the mysterious place known as Black Creek Pioneer Village.

And the Band Plays On…

The ambiance inside the church was warm on account of it being an old structure, full of wood and memory. Also it was a pleasant contrast to the weather, which was beginning to turn towards a wetter disposition.

Brad’s Great Uncle was the Officiant, due to the inconvenience of their original choice becoming suddenly unavailable. The priest had a great sense of humour, and after they had quieted down the string instruments, they proceeded to become an official couple.

Rainy Day Sunshine

After the wedding was done, the couple signed the registry and went off for pictures. Unfortunately, the sky was crying for joy at this point, and the wedding party had to make their way out into the wet fray.

Someone had the foresight to bring a plethora of umbrellas, so they were relatively dry during their brief journey to to the photo destination.

A Warm Reception

The reception was great, with a delicious buffet spread and great company. There was a lot of family there, leaving us friends on the outlying tables. It was actually a great way to see the whole thing.

The tables were also covered with all kinds of origami stylez. Stars, frogs, canoes and other objects were scattered about. These different objects represented aspects of the bride and groom.

Our table had a little fun with the centrepiece…

I went up to do a quick word for Brad and Phung that ended up turning into something a little bit longer than I would have liked. In any case, I meant every word, and am glad that they understand how I feel about them.

How lucky am I? I snagged the bride for some fancy footwork as the aunties look upon our moves with approval…

Rockin’ Out

A live band played a few sets in between the play list chosen by the happy couple. Lots of people were slow to start, but once they got going, it was a lot of fun.

This made it hard to leave. Even though we had left Little J with Mrs. J’s mom for the night, we were pretty tuckered out. A full night’s sleep is hard to come by at the best of times, so we ducked out at around midnight or so, taking the opportunity to get some pics with the stars of the show.

We did thirty seven takes. These were the best ones…

It was a great day, and I’m very happy for the two of them. Congrats, guys!

Epilogue

Several weeks later, they held a friends-only party up North. Unfortunately, due to Karate-related commitments, we couldn’t go, but I hear it was a blast. How many people can claim two receptions?

Awesome.

🙂
