The Madness
I feel that studying a Martial Art is a never-ending process.
I’ve studied a number in the course of my life, and because of politics or other circumstances I have never reached black belt level in any of them.
The closest I’ve been to achieving this is in Capoeira, where I attained the title of Senior Professional.
The opportunity has come up to attempt this level in my current Martial Art.
It’s a lot of work, and has arisen at a time in my life when things are very hectic.
What with a newborn, four weddings, and some weekend getaways, it would seem on the surface that there is not a lot of time to train.
The Method (Which is also Madness)
The last thing I want to do is sacrifice time with family, so I’ve asked for permission to work earlier in the day so that I might be able to make the early classes and help out in the dojo.
It’s crazy enough to work. The only side effect is that I’ll have to go to bed a little earlier, but it will be worth it.
Mrs. J is very supportive of this whole thing. I don’t think I would do it if she wasn’t on side. It really wouldn’t be fair to my special ladies.
Alarming
So yes, this is the enigma that I was referring to last week.
I wasn’t in a position to talk about it when I wrote that.
I also got really busy with some weekend events, so I didn’t have time to keep everyone updated.
Again, it’s nothing to worry about. Just something that I’ve always wanted to do for myself.
Wish me luck!

My last post was enigmatic, but this was for good reason.
Sometimes, secrets are the best way to stay sane.
Sometimes, it is enough to let people know that something is going on. It’s therapeutic in a way.
I know that it’s frustrating to those who do not know what’s going on, so I shall put forth an idea.
If you feel like it, you can click here. This will send you to a page that contains a game created by some fun individuals.
You may discover the secrets of the internet at this location. At the very least, it will keep you distracted for a moment or two…

I’m going through an interesting range of emotions these days.
With so many things on the plate, it’s hard to decide what to eat first.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I will say that none of what is going on is bad. The family is great, the house is in order (for the most part), and no one is at risk.
This will be a very challenging summer. Thanks to chats with a select few, though, I feel good about it.
A few pieces have yet to be set in motion. Once they are, though, I’ll be holding on for dear life.
Sounds like fun!

Three Steves, Two Mikes, No Daves?
I had a relatively nice weekend, if you discount the odd stomach problems from eating improperly prepared Unagi.
On Saturday my parents visited to wish me a Happy Birthday, which is nice.
They chilled with us for a while, leaving late enough to have had a good visit, and early enough for us to prepare the house and yard for the barbecue we were having on Sunday.
The barbecue was a great time.
Mrs. J’s mom, some friends and other family members helped me enjoy a nice Sunday in May.
I don’t normally go around publicizing my birthday. While it’s nice to get gifts, it’s not really the focus of the day for me.
I just like to spend time with the people that I care about. As cheesy as it sounds, that’s the best gift of all.
Mrs. J managed to let everyone know ahead of time, though, so people did bring me some nice birthday gifts. Some also brought gifts for Little J, which was very sweet.
It was a mixed group of people, so it was far from boring. In fact, most of the time these sorts of groups mesh very well, because everyone learns something new and makes a new friend.
Although, sometimes I wonder if I subconsciously do it as some sort of bizarre entertainment for myself, like I’m some mad psychologist running a weird social experiment.
It was strange having no one named Dave present. Dave and Sarah visited a week earlier on their way to a shower for another friend, so it wasn’t really a Dave-less birthday.
And to answer the obvious question…
33.
