In the last month, how many times did you hear people say…
I don’t know if I’m going to vote. I mean, it’s not like I make a difference. We’ll end up with the Conservatives anyway.
I wonder how many of the 40.9% that didn’t cast a vote in this election were made up of those people?

Actually, it’s 41%. And I’m annoyed at them too.
It is ridiculously frustrating to meet those people.
Can’t they understand that we are LUCKY to have the RIGHT to vote? And that we should feel obligated to take full advantage? Hesus!!
Yay Canada. Way to not give a shit.

Well, I didn’t turn out but have a pretty good excuse.
Here’s the thing though. I sort of get it. At the last elections in Israel I stood in the booth for literally five minutes and could not choose. Every single option sucked, and I’d become so disillusioned with the state of the country and the chance of anyone I’d vote for fixing it, that it felt like a giant waste of time. I did end up voting, for my default party. Not because I felt they’d be able to accomplish anything, but because they were the only ones who didn’t make me ill to contemplate. They ended up getting about 5 percent of the vote.
I wasn’t alone with this sentiment, which explains why the veterans’ party managed to get close to 10 percent of the vote that year. I think my brother voted for them, and it’s hardly like they’re out to protect his interests.
Unsurprisingly, Olmert’s party won the election – a party that stood literally for nothing except that Sharon could no longer count on the support of his party so he created a new one, and then became incapacitated before the election.
I’ve gotten to a point in my life that actually *caring* made me miserable, so I decided to just detach myself from all things political. I just don’t care. Will I turn up for the next election? I don’t know. Maybe if the polling station is nearby. I know this sounds shallow and irresponsible, but it is possible to become disenchanted with something when the other alternatives are equally shitty.
