Movember 2019

The Movember foundation focuses on awareness in three area: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mens’ mental health (which includes suicide prevention).

For eleven years I have been raising money for Movember, and for every year there are more personal examples of why it is an important charity. Each year that has passed has had more men that I know diagnosed with prostate cancer – some are friends and some are friends or relatives of friends. I have also witnessed the anguish of those who are forces to struggle with mental health issues – and, unfortunately, I also know people who have had to bear the brunt of suicide in their families.

Movember’s goal is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%. Since 2003, they have funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world and have been shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way that health services reach and support men. They exist to help men live happier, healthier and longer lives.

While there are many negative elements associated with masculinity (to put it mildly), there are also many stigmas that hold men back from being healthy and vulnerable. Many men suffer in silence about mental health issues and disease. Why not help me help the Movember Foundation make a difference in that regard?

And while donations are always appreciated, positive vibes are welcome as well.

Thanks for reading! I’ll be posting progress on that page regularly.

(Apologies for the late missive – it has been a busy few weeks and this is the first chance I have had to write a proper Movember post).
