Movember 2019

The Movember foundation focuses on awareness in three area: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mens’ mental health (which includes suicide prevention).

For eleven years I have been raising money for Movember, and for every year there are more personal examples of why it is an important charity. Each year that has passed has had more men that I know diagnosed with prostate cancer – some are friends and some are friends or relatives of friends. I have also witnessed the anguish of those who are forces to struggle with mental health issues – and, unfortunately, I also know people who have had to bear the brunt of suicide in their families.

Movember 2018 has come and gone, and this year you all helped me raise over $6K! That’s a pretty incredible achievement, and you should all know that I am very thankful for your help! Continue reading

Run Mo Run

Movember is On!

It is currently day 5 of Movember and the ‘stache is coming in nicely. What I really like about the initiative this year is that there are a lot of different ways to participate. There is the obvious one: grow a moustache, of course. However, if you are not into growing one (or you don’t have the ability to grow one), you can still participate by doing the MOve program, which has you doing some sort of physical activity (running, working out, etc.) once a day for the whole month.

I am crazy, so I am doing both of these things.

Game For Anything

Another way to participate (and a fun way to donate) is to try out the Movember Foundation’s new game: Run Mo Run, available for iOS and Android. Run Mo Run is a side-scrolling game that puts you in the shoes and moustache of a handsome gentleman, intent on clearing the stages across five worlds. Every tap helps you to change the face of men’s health. In addition, all proceeds from ads and in-app purchases go towards the Movember initiative.

The quality of the graphics and the sound is good, especially for a free game. So? What are you waiting for?

Movember 2014

movember2014-1

Well, folks! It’s November again – and that means time for me to do something that my wife hates: grow a giant honkin’ moustache. This is, of course, for Movember. Movember started out being an initiative to raise awareness for prostate cancer. It also served as a way to raise research money. Well, over the last few years, Movember has evolved to include men’s health in general – especially mental health issues. I can’t think of a more appropriate time to shine a spotlight on that affliction, considering recent events.

So please, if you have any spare coins lying underneath your couch cushions, please donate to me and my team: just click here.

It Takes a Village…

…to grow a moustache this big.

Little J asks me about doing “the serious photo” in early October. That’s commitment!

All kidding aside, our humble team of 8 raised over $6K to support Movember Canada – a feat which could not have been achieved without your donations. I wish that I could write each and every one of you your own personalized “thank you” note, but I can’t. So I’d like to thank you here for all of your kindness in donating to what I believe is a worthy cause.

I’m hoping that next year we can raise even more!
