Movember 2020 – Tale of the Tape

We take Movember fundraising seriously.

And so, here we are at the end of another Movember. As of this moment, 130 separate donations were received totaling $6,194 – with the overall team number being $6,879! Even though we are in the middle of a pandemic, so many people reached out to help with their donations – I am truly grateful for all of you (and those of you who have also given me your encouragement).

Movember is an important cause – and I believe that the Movember Foundation does some fantastic work. I gladly throw my heart into this because I believe it to be a worthy place to do so – even among all of the other worthy causes.

Where does the money go? Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the good works:

  • 1,250 health projects funded
  • 34 clinical trials completed with the help of Movember funding
  • Movember-funded scientists have shown that breast cancer drug Olaparib is effective in treating men in the advanced stages of prostate cancer. The drug has achieved FDA approval in the US (with other countries to follow). This is huge.
  • A Movember-funded study, with support from the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, has shown PSMA scans are more accurate than conventional CT/bone scans.
  • Before 2013, we could identify only 6 genetic variants that were associated with testicular cancer risk. We now know there are more than 50; Movember-funded work in the UK identified 35 of them.
  • First responders and military veterans are disproportionately affected by mental health issues and suicide. Movember is excited to co-fund a minimum of eight projects in support of our frontline heroes (and their families) across the globe.

This year, our “serious” photo (because we take fundraising seriously) includes a few more people – all dedicated to helping me (which I appreciate very much).

It’s not too late to donate, if you so choose: https://ca.movember.com/mospace/372848/

I would also be remiss if I didn’t thank my teammates Matt (https://ca.movember.com/mospace/14457250) and Tyler (https://ca.movember.com/mospace/14512004) for their time and effort. You can choose to back them, or donate to the Zayo Mo’ team: https://ca.movember.com/team/2236721

Once again, your boundless kindness and generosity are appreciated more than I can properly express. I will be back at it next year, and you are more than welcome to join me!

Midnight is just around the corner so I can finally get rid of this thing!
